Several properties have been evacuated after a large fire at a scrapyard in Nottingham
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Radford Road, Basford, on Wednesday at 10:31. Nottinghamshire Police said properties were being evacuated. Six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform are at the scene. People living and
working nearby have been advised to close doors and windows as the fire has generated a large plume of acrid smoke. Properties evacuated as fire breaks out at scrapyard. The BBC reported the incident as being at a recycling centre on Radford Road.
The photos here and above were taken from various websites. This last one of the group, taken maybe from a nearby house, is maybe the most dramatic one of them all? I could almost smell it!
Here are those I took from the balcony & kitchen.

I rang Mr Kervis to advise him, as he asked me to, but didn’t get a reply when I tried on Monday.
I was in a bit of a tizzy at the time. An hour and a half away from ringing a taxi to get to the Doctor’s appointment, and all things happening, had to ring to change the delivery of the medical supplies, as they said it was coming today, at the same time as the appointment. I got that done, well, the Carer did.
Then the window cleaners arrived, nice lads. I needed a wash & shave and help getting dressed. Then remembered Mr Kervis and called him.
I was a little worked up at the time. I told him of the rebate had not yet reached the bank. He needs printed proof in the form of TSB bank statements; he told me to ring the bank and gave me their number.
So, I did. They were as helpful as a plastic colander would be in mining for coal. Nothing new there then.
I explained my situation, not too calmly, I admit. The lady said I have to go to the bank to discuss this. Refusing my request for the statement. I have to admit that in the midst of all the worries and failure to right wrongs, I was getting antagonised, bitter, incensed, offended, and even felt affronted by being told what to do in such a snotty way. ”You’ll have to…” That could have been worded less Hitleristically, commandingly. I would have thought?
IF I ever afford a Carer to go to the bank with me, find the fare for taxis there and back, and can avoid me not blowing my lid and having another stroke, seizure or heart attack, and get to the Snotty TSB Bank; will I keep my temper when I see the ignorant, uncaring, not-interested female that I spoke to on the phone, control myself?

Things are now that bad, with tons of medical appointments that I cannot afford to go to until I sort out the bank online problems, British Gas, having booked a visit from a meter reader-checker, send more emails asking for a meter reading, and tells me my monthly payments are going up over 200%, and my arithmaphobia. Arthur Ritis, the new prong-tube-ended Catheter Contraption instructions have arrived, and the chances of that are approximately zero. After contacting the District Nurses, QMC A&E, Medical Navigator, & QMC Urology, I then complained to the PALS Board about not getting any information on which day and night bags to use, how often they should be changed, which ones are and are not compatible. Can Carers still change the day & attach the nocturnal bags? The only guidance I got from the hospital Doctor, not the first one, was that he could not get the new tube in but had two tries, I mean the second Doctor, or was he a Mr.? Who was on his way home, that the first one took me to see, and he took two tries and got it in on his second try; He said something like, the top grip pad must not come off, when it is due to be changed, you need Medical Alcohol to remove it. This pad held the new array grippers for two tubes.
That fell off the next morning!
Anyway, the first people I contacted, the district nurses, confirmed they are not allowed to handle the new hook-ended Catheter tube. I explained I did not want that, just information and told her of my weary, scary, embarrassing visit when I was sent to A&E when the Catheter was blocked.
That was a medical emergency situation, they said. So I was told to get a taxi to the A&E. Told it would be roughly £15 each way. I mustered the last of my cash, adding coins to make the £30 needed. On the way to the QMC, we got stuck in traffic mayhem. Roadworks blocked the road, and traffic lights were out on the ring road.
I waited approximately four hours before being seen, so the trip there cost more time of agony from the bladder, and £25.40, not enough to get a taxi home. But what followed was even worse. I won’t go into detail; it might have you crying. Hehe! Just a few reminders:
4-hour wait. Penile lesions squirted, causing urine and blood to spray. Ask where WC was, went, wet floor, not T-paper or paper towels. I added urine and blood to the floor. Back to the waiting room, getting lost en route. Told I’d missed my turn and to sit down. A bit of interest here, watch police arrest two youths sitting in the waiting room. The doc could not get a new tube in. Took me to another, a Mr The only highlight of the visit was that a nurse realised the four people were being picked up by hospital transport, and added me to the list, bless her! 🤎
Just think, the next time I have a blockage, I’ve got to go through that palava and cost in cash and time!
Combined, this likely caused my irritation with the banks and the arrogant lady.
Best say not more, nowt I can do, unless somebody has a fuse-grenade for sale cheap?

Got home with Carer Ejaz. He was in charge of the payment money, as I always ask him to since the arithmaphobia hit me. As we made our way up to the flat, he pointed out that the first taxi charged £1.30 more than the second. Only a short journey, I was surprised he didn’t cut through up the hill near JS and avoid it. I assume that was the reason, a little wallet-swelling exercise I learned when I was working on the cabs.
T’was a long time ago. But not in Mexico!

I flaked out when we got in. Ejaz asked me if I wanted a sucker from the freezer or a mug of tea. Kind lad. Issued the belated medications and had to go to his next call.
He helped with the questions from the Doctor, too. Thanks, Ejaz, mate. Don’t suppose I’ll see him much again now they have cut his visits to me down.
Another niggle to add to the incomplete tasks: worrying over the bank business and attitude, physical & mental ailments, depression, and frustration.
I’m not moaning, of course, just saying. Humph!

I made a meal of delight; t’was so tasty,
Fresh peas, carrots, potatoes, Teriyaki,
For today, that was a tragicomedy…
Yet another day, that was so very busy,
3 callers, 4 phone calls, I was in a tizzy,
Then off to the Doctor’s surgery,
So very gladly, with Carer Ejaz with me,
First time in weeks, I was actually joyful,
I lost the plot here; the evening meal!
With bread, I ate every spoonful,
Licked the bowl, not being wasteful,
Then fell asleep, dream of an Angel…

Until Care Mizra woke me up, but gently. He didn’t have long, but after putting on the nocturnal hook-ended Catheter pouch, he looked at some letters that needed attention. That was kind of him. Thanks, mate. Said he’ll try to find time to help me fill out the long 4-page EENT questionnaire for the pre-op check for the upcoming Cataract procedure. Cheers again.
Farewells exchanged, I collapsed on the bed.

Thanks to ICC for allowing Carer Ejaz to perform escort duties to and from the doctors. I’d be over the moon if you could grant him some more calls on me. Things have gone downhill since he and Mizra rarely call nowadays.
His help, with the knowledge he has of my needs, ailments and problems, proved priceless today.
Thanks again.

Last nights nosh
Very nearly made the bed!
Porcelain Throne. Off to the WC and passed a messy, stinky dollop of wet poo, all done in seconds. As I was cleaning up the porcelain splashes, my left knee gave a sharp stabbing pain and gave way on me. Nothing new there.
grabbed them so as not to go down. Back in the main room, I took a strong Oxycodone Hydrochloride painkiller capsule. I took the night pouch off and made up some bottles of water to keep the Catheter Contraption working. Had a good few gulps, but the day bag was not receiving any urine from the bladder. I admit this scared me a little – well, no, the thought of having to go to the A&E in a £15 each-way taxi, to get ignored, embarrassed and scowled at by the medics. Not all of them, just two.
On the computer to finalise yesterday’s blog, and got it posted. Then started the Ode for today’s effort. It’s a shame that CorelDraw is not working on the new £850-plus-fitting computer properly. I hate digging into the files that the new computer lets me access old graphics. I’ve been conned again! Grumph!
asked him to apply more Phorpain gel to the shoulder. Which he did for me. He muttered something from behind me as I was getting my two sticks for a balance test and hobbled around. Got the sticks stood up, and he was gone.
was a bit wobbly, but I’ve had worse after seizures before. Sat down for 15 minutes, then I went to the kitchen. It went well enough. So I got the kettle on to make a brew of Glengettie. Tasted a little off, but it wasn’t the milk this time. I reckon it was the acid reflux from the seizure that caused it. I have plainly not fully recovered from the effects yet. I sat down, took the mug to be washed, and was wobbling a bit, and my left fractured knee was giving way again. I got sat down again and stayed there for an hour or so. Feeling a little steadier now, but still unsteady when standing or walking? I hope the cause was the seizure and nothing new.
Midday Carer arrived. I was not in good nick mentally. I moaned about the new problems with the dentist and the Red Cross not being tended to, and asked him to watch me as I try to book the appointment as they asked me to do online.

The Carers’ monthly bill arrived. With an extra £33.32 added, marked as an Adult Care and arrangement fee. Knowing me, it may have been on all
the other bills, but who knows for sure. Not me.

Yet another bad night for sleep, well, for staying asleep. Always waking up.
e visits in two hours.
All the hobbling seems to have affected the legs and feet; all were far less swollen than when I started out on the little trip. Yet they hurt far more than before. A lot more.
I was so hungry that I put the food away, all but what was needed for my snack. Cut the two bread rolls in half. The finger didn’t bleed too much.
Loaded both sides with my favourite No-Butter-Butter. Two slices of meat, sliced tomatoes added, and salted the tomatoes a little. I just knew I was going to like these! The smell! 😋
